For Kenya Wildlife Safaris there are numerous national reserves and parks offering some of Africa's richest wildlife viewing rewards for tourists, so this one of the premier choices for African wildlife safari vacations.
Some of the more popular reserves and parks for spectacular wildlife viewing in Kenya are:
Masai Mara National Reserve
The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is a continuation of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
With it's gently undulating rich savannah grasslands, Masai Mara offers the finest opportunities for african wildlife safaris in Kenya. This reserve has an abundance of wildlife, which include plenty of predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah, which hunt the wildebeest, zebra, and various other species of antelope and gazelle. There are also large populations of elephant, rhino and hippo in to the rivers, and plenty of birds of prey and other species of bird.
At Masai Mara, wildlife tourists are especially well catered for.
One of the greatest sights is the seasonal migration of over a million wildebeest and over 200,000 zebras and other hoofed wildlife, which migrate through this region in search of greener pastures. Thousands of animals die when crossing the the Mara River, either through being crushed by the other animals, or drowning, or by crocodiles which infest the river.
July through to October is a good time to visit Masai Mara, when the plains are teeming with migrant animals.
Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves
These are the most remote and inaccessible of the most popular reserves, and are situated in the semi-desert region in the north, along the "permanently flowing" Ewaso Ng'iso River.
During the drier seasons, these reserves are teeming with wildlife from the arid regions to the north-east.
Wildlife include elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra, gazelle, giraffe, oryx, dik-dik and crocodile.
This is also the place to see some animal species which are rare in Kenya, as they only dwell above the Equator, such as Grevy's Zebra, reticulated giraffe and Beisa Oryx.
Amboseli National Park
One of the most spectacular views to be seen at Amboseli National Park is not of wildlife, but that of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, across the border in Tanzania.
An abundance of wildlife viewing occurs at the waterholes. The animals found here include the "Big Five": elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard.
